Anchovy: Protein and More in a Single Fish

Today we want to share with you one of our star products from the Cantabrian Sea.

The anchovy.

This fish is not only delicious but also an essential food in our diet.

Anchovy is an oily fish rich in beneficial fats for our health. More specifically, we could say that it is beneficial for our cardiovascular system, as its consumption helps it to function well and strengthens the vascular system.

Let's look in more detail at what the Cantabrian anchovy offers us.

One of the main nutrients that anchovies provide us with is omega-3 fatty acid. This is an important and essential component for our body, as this fatty acid has the great quality of reducing bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels in our blood, thus helping our cardiovascular system to function better.

That's regarding Omega 3 fatty acid, but what else does it provide us with?

Protein, which is present in large quantities in this small fish, and what we especially highlight is that it is a high biological value protein, found in anchovies in a pure form and easily assimilated by the body.

Anchovy, as an oily fish, is a treasure for athletes, children, and adults as it aids muscle growth and the creation of new fibers in our body.

It is an important source of vitamins. B vitamins are prominent, such as B2 or riboflavin, B3 or niacin, B6 or pyridoxine, B9 or folic acid, and B12 or cyanocobalamin.

What do all these vitamins provide us with?

They all play a role in utilizing the nutrients that provide our body with energy, such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins… In addition to having important functions in the creation of red blood cells, DNA synthesis, nervous system function…

As you can see, anchovies are a source of great nutrients, and fortunately, in our country, we enjoy them in a thousand different ways: marinated anchovies, anchovies with lemon, pickled anchovies, anchovies in oil, anchovies in olive oil, anchovies in vinegar…

The latter, one of our specialties, of course!

Our recipe is well-known not only nationally but internationally, regarding the precise maceration with vinegar and the exact texture of the anchovy as a fish.

Anchovy, as an oily fish, stands out for its high content of vitamin A, which helps keep our tissues in good condition, as well as mucous membranes and the immune system, a very important part of disease prevention.

Anchovy also contains vitamin D, which is essential for metabolism.

It is worth noting that it contains minerals such as magnesium, iodine, iron, calcium (which is concentrated in the bones), and also sodium… All these minerals are important for our body as they are essential for our muscles, thyroid gland, and bones.

Furthermore, its consumption helps regulate our metabolism and maintain a good level of nutrients in our body.

For all these reasons, eating anchovies is one of the best options in the Mediterranean diet, due to their excellent taste and all the benefits they bring to our body.

100% pure protein, vitamins, folic acid, and minerals.
